The Youth Exchange Program

Youth Exchange Programme Background
The Youth Exchange Programme began way back in 1961.

It is a vehicle to fulfill the objective of the Lions,
"to Create and foster understanding among the peoples of the world"

The Programme consists of Inbound and outbound Youth Exchangees or commonly known as YE. Inbound YEs are Youths who are from outside the host country while Outbound YEs are youths eligible to go to another foreign country for the programme.

Outbound YEs - Application & Process.

Application
- Fill up the Application Form
- Must have Parents consent and signature
- Send the Form to the sponsoring Lion Club for endorsement
- Submit the form, enclose processing fees where required
- Await notice for examination and interview

Process
- Successful Applicants shall be notified by the District Chairperson (DC) for YE or the committee
- The Applicant shall be required to answer questions and write an essay to show his or her understanding of his or her own country, history, culture, climate, geography social environment and etc.
- Questions and essay title shall be pre-set for all interviewers and examiners

Criteria for selection fr Outbound YEs
Basic Criteria for selection:
- Has hosted at least one foreign Youth Exchangee
- Has participated actively in Leo Movements
- Has scored good points in interview and examination

* Number of successful applicants are also pending on the availability of YE allocation from foreign countries
* Criteria may be revised when necessary

InBound YEs Host Families
- Receiving a YE visiting is an activity and resposibility of the host Lions Club and the host family.
- Responsibilities include arrangement for the YE's arrival and departure, accomodation and welfare and the social and cultural entertainment throughout the visit.


Host Family Criteria for selection
- Potential host families are to be screened by the host Lions Club
- Where possible, the host family should be a Lion member's family or a Leo member's family.
- Other considerations:

Age
Youth of age close to those of the YE visiting

Compatibility
The understanding , interest and ability to communicate with the visiting YE

Language ability
Speaking the youth's language besides English will be an advantage

Responsibility
Understand and accept their responsibility as a host

Living condition
Adequete to accomodate an additional person in the home

Family preferences
Family attitude concerning YE's nationaility, language, religion, sex, age and any special interests

Non- Lion host family
Be well informed on the scope and objects of Lionism and Ye programme
